Refusal to Surrender

Too often does it feel like the world is going to shit. And too often does it feel like there’s nothing that can be done and all you want to do is curl up in a fetal position stuck to watch as your hopes for the world, dreams of the future, goals you’ve set, drain away. Nothing feels important. Nothing feels worth it. You are just a worthless spec in the universe.
Many of us have been there, yes?
Many of us in our teens to twenties about to start our lives only to be slammed with constant news flashes of our impending doom which leaves the feeling of impossibility to do anything. It sucks. It’s depressing. It’s false.
I don’t care what old people who have surrendered in life or young people who don’t give a shit have to say about the future of this world. I refuse to believe that we are so far gone that the only way to remedy anything is the absolute extinction of our species. Aye, there are a shit ton of people that live selfishly and have no care about the rest of humanity or the planet they inhabit. There’s a lot of them, but there’s more that stand on the opposite side. They rarely get talked about though. That’s usually the case with news isn’t it? All the disasters are discussed, the horrible crimes of humanity, but few and far between do you find the good that people do. We are surrounded by words and voices telling us that this is the end so often that we’ve chosen to give up rather than look away and see what we can do better.
It’s common knowledge that those with the most money and the most power are the ones at the heart of this planet’s suffering. They don’t want to change, they might not make as big a paycheck. This goes all the way down the line from government to head office of a drug store. A few people that sit on a chair whilst the rest of us sit on the floor beneath them. Here’s something that’s so easily forgotten though: they are always outnumbered. The few rule the many. We peasants have more numbers than those sitting in lavish offices. We peasants have more impact. If we want to change this world for the better, we damn well can.
It’s the simple things in life that go a long way. If you can, walk, bus, bike to where you’re going. Buy reusable, sustainable, everyday things like tissues, cotton rounds, swabs, paper towels. Purchase clothing from companies that support earthly causes if you can afford to. Get some plants, grow some herbs, make a vegetable garden, raise a fruit tree. Do laundry less frequently, use less hot water. Recycle the rubbish that’s recyclable, acquire a compost bin if you have the space for it. Spread your strategies to your friends, family. Have them do the same. Boycott the bigwigs hell-bent on destroying the next generations as much as you can.
Even if it’s just one thing you can do, it’s something. Stand up and take things into your own hands. I’m sick and tired of feeling miserable and helpless all the time and I know a lot of you out there are too. We can do something though. We really can.
I’ve heard too many people say that since they won’t be here much longer anyway, what does it matter? Well that’s exactly why things are getting worse. If everyone has that bleak outlook on life then nothing will change but it will matter because of how much faster things deplete. We will still be here when that happens. Not to mention that that’s just a shit way of thinking. That’s exactly how we humans have always buggered up, just thinking about ourselves as individuals. Gods, if this pandemic has taught us anything it’s that selfish thinking fucks things up for everybody, and for much longer. Just because it seems like everyone else is doing it, DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO.
Grow your own brain. Take a stand. Make a change. And maybe we won’t all be so bloody depressed and fed up with life anymore since we’ll be doing something to better it. That’s how these bastards stay in power, they rely on us to do nothing. We should stop doing that. It’s not helping anyone, not even our selfish selves.
Humanity has so much more to offer than we give credit. As much as our history and present is dicey, it’s also incredible. We’ve come so far as a people, created so many wonders. And we can go further, create more. We don’t have to be our demise, we don’t have to be the demise of all the other living things that are currently suffering from our actions. We don’t have to keep repeating all the mistakes we’ve made in our history. If we would just pause for a moment. Pause in the middle of the ever flowing current of mindless bodies and ask ourselves, “why am I following them?”
Each individual makes an impact. You may not realize it but you do. People notice it, learn from it, change from it. They might not even be people you think about. It’s not just friends and family. It could be a classmate, a customer, a random passerby. What we do, others see. If others see us taking steps to alter the course of our predicted future, they might follow. We are herd animals. Move the herd in a positive direction and positive change will ensue. We just need enough individuals to get the herd moving. Why not start with yourself?

Hullo. Welcome to my brain that is predominantly made up of rants and sprinkled with a few life observations.
